האכינצאה היא צמח שכיח ביבשת ארה"ב, קנדה ואף אירופה. במשך שנים שימשה האכינצאה את האינדיאנים בתקופות החורף הקרות ברפואת הצמחים המסורתית שלהם. החלקים הנמצאים בשימוש הם העלים, הפרח והשורש. לצמח האכינצאה מספר זנים שונים. אכינצאה סולגאר מבוססת על זן ה- Echinacea purpurea.
